A lot of people only think of sun, sea and beach when they think of Egypt. Not a very strange thought, considering the amount of beautiful coastal areas the country has.

Hurghada is one of the most famous; once a fishing village, now a true vacation paradise with a lot of possibilities. It is surrounded by an interesting desert and not that far from the sights of Luxor.

Close to Hurghada is El Gouna, a new village, build around artificial lagoons and with a golf court.

Further down south are more seaside resorts; Sharm al-Naga, Port Safaga, El-Quseir and Marsa Alam, a new resort town, situated on a pristine coast.

The Sinai is surrounded by the Mediterranean, the Gulf of Suez en the Gulf of Aqaba. This gives plenty of opportunities for all kinds of water sports and there are enough beaches for the sun worshippers.

Sharm el-Sheikh and Na’ama Bay are well-known, but there is more.

Dahab was originally a small town where the Bedouins would spend the winter. Now it has become a meeting place for divers, surfers, bikers and walkers. It is a good place to start excursions to the desert.

If you say Nuweiba, you say dolphin - there is one that quite often comes to the bay of this town. You can also find the boat to Jordan here - want to go and have a look at Petra?

Taba has a marvellous natural bay and Geziret el-Faraun: there is a crusaders castle on this little island, and interesting coral reefs on the other side of it.

El Arish is a seaside resort in the north of the Sinai. This place is a bit more conservative than the others, but it has beautiful white beaches. And it’s close to the Baradawil Lagoon, an important place for migrating birds.

Then there is the north coast, bordering on the Mediterranean: more than 800 kilometres of beautiful white beaches. Alexandria offers more than just the sea; a visit to the beach can be combined with a visit to one of the many sights of the city. Spreads over the whole coastline are hotels and resorts, for example at Sidi Abdel Rahman and Marsa Matrouh.
